CBS Saturday Morning 1969

CBS started their Saturday morning broadcasts an hour early this year to get the jump in this increasingly competitive market. Archie increased to an hour and Wacky Races was split into two shows - The Perils of Penelope Pitstop and Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines. Top it off with some dog detective show named Scooby Doo Where Are You? and some Bugs Bunny/Road Runner and you have quite a winning combination. This isn't even counting the Jetsons reruns which were always very popular.

The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour - Warner Brothers/Seven Arts Introduction

Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines - Pilot - Follow That Feather

The Perils of Penelope Pitstop - Opening

Scooby Doo Where Are You? - Original Intro

The Archie Comedy Hour - Intro (This is the intro to Archie and His New Pals which is almost identical)

Wacky Races - Coming Up Next Bumper

Free Live Streaming Concerts

Wolfgang's Vault has at least a few hundred streaming live concerts that are available for free streaming. Most of them are from the late 1970's/early 1980's vintage but there is a lot of really good stuff here.

Wacky Races

First airing in 1968, I really used to like this cartoon and it is still quite fun to watch with lots of familiar animation voices. All episodes are available on DVD and I think that most episodes are available on youtube. Two spinoff series were created for the next year, The Perils of Penelope Pitstop and Dastardly and Muttley.

Carabao - tho. thahan otthon (posted at monrakplengthai)
The band's name is actually คาราบาว and the album's title is better said as ท. ทหารอดทน but all you need know is that this is the most popular Thai rock band ever. These aren't my words of course but I don't really know a lot about Thai rock history. Link

Dancin' In the 80's With K-Tel

The K-Tel blog has posted this vinyl rip that has all of your favorite early 80' songs - Rapper's Delight, Second Time Around, and THE VILLAGE PEOPLE. Ok, so maybe it's not all of your favorite 80's songs or maybe even none of them (I was a huge RAPPER'S DELIGHT fan) but it is delightfully dated.

Don't Forget - High Quality Option in Many Youtube Videos

Youtube has now made it possible to view the high quality version of videos in the embedded players. Click on the little arrow in the bottom corner and select the High Quality option. It's not available for all videos but usually it is at least satellite/digital cable standard definition quality.

CBS Saturday Morning 1968

Nothing revolutionary this year, just lots of reruns from last year and a couple of fairly popular new cartoons - Wacky Races and Archie.

I couldn't find any clips for the Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show or The Batman Superman Hour of Adventure.

Old Calendars

This one has been making the rounds on the net lately so I just wanted to clue my readers in to the fact that you can actually use old calendars instead of a 2009 calendar! I guess there are only fourteen different combinations for the days of the year falling on the right day of the month (7 for regular years, 7 for leap years) - which makes sense if you think about it - so you can find some really cool vintage calendars and make your home or office look really cool. The holidays will mostly be correct but some of the floaters (Easter, Memorial Day, etc.) will be off. Off to Ebay to find something cool!

Shazzan!

This one was a little weird - a science-fiction show about a genie that befriends a couple of kids and takes them back in time. Don't forget their camel, Kaboobie, who sounds a lot like another of HB's hot properties (starting a long trend of copying elements from various cartoons and not always coming up with something original). Again, no official dvd release but all episodes are available on youtube, many in high quality.

Episode 1 - The Living Island (High Quality video available)

Episode 2 - Master of the Thieves

Episode 3 - Valley of the Giants

Episode 4 - The Black Sultan

The Herculoids

Another Alex Toth designed Hanna-Barbera action oriented cartoon that was created for the action crazed market of the mid sixties and ran for two years. It seems that there is no official dvd release but all of the episodes are available on youtube.

Episode 1 - The Mutoids

Episode 2 - The Gladiators of Kyanite

Episode 3 - The Antidote

Frankenstein Jr. and the Impossibles

Interesting show featuring a cast of rock band heroes with useless powers and a big mechanical flying Frankensteinesque monster. I think it was announced for dvd once but I don't think that it ever came out. It seems that most episodes are available on youtube and the high quality captures of the Impossibles episodes look really good.

Episode 2 - The Spyder Man

Episode 3 - The Menace From the Wax Museum

Star Trek - Unused Title and Intro Music

Just found this one on the net and thought it would be a good share. Not great video quality but the audio is what you are there for anyway.

Which do you like better, this one or the one that they ended up using? Me, I will stick with the one that ended up getting used.

Cortijo y Su Combo Con Ismael Rivera - Fiesta Boricua (posted at Global Groove)
