The Empire Strikes Back (NPR Radio Edition)

While I don't think this one was as good as their Star Wars adaptation it's still pretty near the finest offering of 'modern' old-time radio style drama. Highly recommended!

The Life of Riley - With Jackie Gleason (1949)

The Life of Riley was an old-time radio show that aired in the 40's and made a pretty successful transition to tv in the 1950's. The show is seldom seen these days but I do remember watching it on late night tv in the late 70's on CBN.

George Burns and Gracie Allen - Gracie Goes To the Fortune Teller (1952)

Another succesful old-time radio to tv transition was this show, starring George Burns and his wife, Gracie Allen. This one is almost an exact copy of the wildly succesful radio show and the translation worked well, in fact this show may have actually been better on the small screen.

The Great Gildersleeve - Gildy the Private Eye (1955)

Another of my favorite old-time radio series was transitioned to the fledgling television format in 1955 but only lasted for one season. This was truly one of the first spin-off shows in pop culture history, spawning from the Fibber McGee and Molly radio show.

The Jack Benny Program - With Liberace (1954)

Another old-time radio show making it's transition to television, this one was perhaps the most successful of all of the old-time radio comedies to tv transitions.

One of my favorite old-time radio comedies also enjoyed a short life as a tv sitcom and there are quite a few episodes available at archive.org. The show, unfortunately, did not have the same stars as the radio show. The episode that I have selected is the pilot episode. Click here for more.

24 hour High Quality Internet Old Time Radio Station

Radiooncemore is now producing a very high quality old time radio station (on live365.com). For some reason the audio is stuttering for me (but I am used to many things just not quite working correctly on my Ubuntu computer).

Jean Shepherd on Archive.org

I don't know how long he has been there but archives of Jean's WOR shows are now available on archive.org. Who is Jean Shepherd you may ask? Have you ever seen A CHRISTMAS STORY? He is the original author/scriptwriter/narrator of the movie that is based on vivid retellings from his childhood memories. Highly recommended.

Jack Benny Christmas Shows (Old-Time Radio)

The humor is sometimes corny - after all it has been 70 years since many of these shows originally aired - but I always enjoy this show. There are about 14 episodes to choose from and I don't think that you can go wrong with any of them.

Duffy's Tavern (old-time radio show) With Special Guest Boris Karloff

Duffy's Tavern was a popular comedy that ran on the radio from 1941-1951. This show from 1943 was a special show devoted to selling war bonds, a popular practice of OTR shows from this era, and guest starred Boris Karloff.

Obscure OTR (#2)

Dental Clinic Of the Air - 1931 - Episode #18
'We bring you now the Dental Clinic of the Air program sponsored by dentists using the ER Parker system. This program is designed to try to help you with your dental problems in the home.' A monotonous announcer drolls out dental advice interspersed with old-time songs. By 'old-time' I am quoting the announcer meaning that these are REALLY old old-time songs now! This is probably about the most boring half hour that you will ever spend in your life.
