Here is an interesting one from manybooks.net: Gladiator by Philip Wylie.
I have not yet read it but I think that I will put it in my 'read soon' pile because of this quote from manybooks.net: 'Considered by many to be the inspiration for the character Superman.'
I had never heard of it either but with a tagline like that it almost makes it a must read.
