Flash Gordon: The TV Series (2007) - REVIEW
I had no idea that the Sci-Fi channel was doing this series and I wouldn't have watched it anyways (I don't watch SCIFI because it is not yet in HD) but when I saw that it was on Universal HD I just had to give it a peek.
Well, let me start off by listing the good things about the series:
1. It is in high definition (on Universal HD at least)
2. The video and audio quality are excellent if you watch in HD on Universal HD.
So what does that leave us with? Not much. If you watch on the SciFi Channel you will get crappy video quality and an extra half an hour of commercials.
The acting was barely passable, the script was ridiculously easy as the coincidences flew left and right to make the story flow, and most of the show was set on Earth. In fact the only thing that it really had in common with previous incarnations of Flash Gordon would be the character names. Normally I would applaud when someone doesn't try to rape my childhood memories but this stinker left me totally disgusted.
I am usually the first one to say 'give it a chance' but I just don't see how I can do that with this monstrosity. Maybe I will watch it again next year if it is still on (doubtful) but for now I recommend steering way clear of this turkey and picking up a $20 dvd set to while away the time instead (lots of good series are at this price point now).
