Angel (1950's Comic Strip)

Those Fabulous Fifties has postd a bunch of Angel comic strips. To me it seems to be a Dennis the Menace ripoff...

  1. It is a Dennis the Menace rip-off and like all of them not nearly as good. Even though Hank Ketcham stopped writing the gags pretty early on and his own creation got blander and blander as time went on, at least graphically he was a genius. Mel Casson was merely pretty good. Michael Gilbert devoted his Mr. Monster pages in Alter Ego toall the comic book imitations of Dennis. But there were several imitations in the newspapers as well.None of them worked, but Angel was one of the most successful (in terms of endurance).

  2. Well, I don't feel that it was a rip-off. That was a great comic. When I was a child I would love when my mother would read it to me. In fact I have the doll and a comic book. It was made by Field enterprise.

  3. Well, I liked it when I was a kid and I still think it is good. Maybe we should see more comics like that instead of what the kids see today.

  6. Wow! I have never received so many comments to a simple post. Ok, let's call it an 'homage' instead of a ripoff? The more we examine popular culture the more we find how much imitation is done with popular things.
