Cool-Mo-Dee's Holiday Gift Guide (<$10)

I always see Gizmodo and Engadget do their lists and now lots of niche blogs are doing it so here is our list for 2008 (all of the prices and links are from Amazon.com and most, if not all, of these items qualify for free super saver shipping if you order over $25):

1. Six Million Dollar Man Coaster
($5.99) - Kind of pricey but if I had a bar in my basement I would get a six pack and it would look really cool!

2. Brady Bunch: Premiere Episodes
($6.99) - The first seven episodes of this series are here including the pretty good pilot wedding episode. Or if you want the entire series (5 seasons worth!) in a special 'shag carpet' covered box you can get that for $65 but that is a bit outside our price range!

3. Fred and Dino - McFarlane Toys 6" Toy
($8.99) It's probably not much of a traditional 'toy' but more of a decoration/collectible but it is a pretty good likeness of the two characters.

4. Forrest J Ackerman's World of Science Fiction
($8.50 and up - many used copies available) I added this one in honor of the legend's passing recently. This book is a really wonderful collection of photos (over 300) and essays about the history of the genre. Highly recommended.

5. Drive-In Cult Classics - 8 Movie Set
($4.99!!!) FIVE BUCKS FOR 8 MOVIES!!! This is the 'exploitation' set and well worth the money. The films are remastered and are of pretty high quality. There are two other sets in this series and each of these is $11.49 (still a steal). If you are a fan of the genre I give you my highest recommendation for this.

6. The Nightmare Before Christmas
($11.55) Ok, this one is cheating but it's my blog! The artwork in this book is awesome and it is a great piece for any fan of the film.

7. A Christmas Story Leg Lamp Night Light
($7.99) I got one of these for Christmas last year and it is now hanging proudly next to our Christmas tree! Amazon also stocks a few different full-size lamps for less than $40 if that is more your thing.

8. LOOT (card game)
($9.99) I have not yet played this game but the reviews are good and it seems to be a fun game that most of the family can enjoy (all but the youngsters) so maybe one of my kids is getting this in their stocking this year... or, then again, maybe they are not!

9. Dracula Smurf
($1.75) I had no idea that Smurfs were still around but here is something for all of you Dracula fans out there.

10. Chicago TV Horror Movie Shows: From Shock Theatre to Svengoolie
($13.46 NEW, $11.24 USED) Another slight cheat but a good read even if you didn't grow up in the area. Relive the golden days of horror hosted late night tv in the comfort of your easy chair.

  1. Cool list. I have frequently used Forrest J Ackerman's World of Science Fiction to find movies to add to my netflix cue, highly recommended.
