DC Comics Showcase: Batman (a review)
I was out camping over the past holiday weekend and took along this book for my reading enjoyment. And an enjoyable read it was! If you are expecting something similar to the modern day dark and gritty Batman you will be sorely dissapointed but if you want to experience one of the milestones in the developmental history of the Batman you are definitely in luck. This book is much more reminiscent of the 1960's tv series and really has little to do with the original Batman comics which were mainly detective stories and had very little to do with super-heroism.
If you are unfamiliar with the Showcase series it is a cheap way ($16 cover price - available for less than twelve bucks at Amazon.com) to get 500+ pages of black and white comic reprints. Many older comics are hard to read in that they are markedly different from today's style. This book comes with my highest recommendation as a starting point if you are thinking of exploring comic's silver and golden ages.
