The Kroft Supershow aired during this season as well as Jabberjaw, better known to me as Curly from the Three Stooges. Mumbly joined the Tom and Jerry/Grape Ape Show and Dynomutt joined in with the Scooby Doo Show.
I used to love this show but now I am not quite so sure why. Maybe it was the only thing on in the time block? It originally aired as a block with Tom and Jerry cartoons but that link has since been dissolved.
If you are a fan it looks like all of the episodes are available on youtube. But, alas, nothing on dvd as of yet.
I am going to do Christmas music for the next month, but it's not going to be your daddy's music but it might be your Grandpa's. There is lots and lots of great Christmas music but many think of only the 'classics' and, quite frankly, we are more than tired of listening to those!
Various Artists - Cool Yule - The Swinging Sound of Christmas (posted at Dr. Forrest's Cheeze Factory) - This one is all over the map with Ed 'Kooky' Burns, The Joy Strings, and Up With People. Link
Tijuana Christmas (posted at FaLaLaLaLa) - two volumes of 'Mexican Brass' Christmas music sponsored by Phillips 66. Link1Link2
Charlie Brown's Christmas Blues (posted at Rotterdam Rebels) - no, not THAT Charlie Brown. This is a blues Christmas album. Link
Lots of 'different' (i.e. weird) stuff here this year. Most of these cartoons are long lost and forgotten. And reruns - Hong Kong Phooey reran the same 17 episodes over and over (and over).
One of my favorites in 1974, it has aged just as well as most of the rest of Hanna-Barbera's lot. And I still love the theme song. Click the dvd picture above to get the complete series from Amazon for only $22.
Sublime doing a cover of the theme song with animation overlay
Wow, the rechargeable bionic ear? I know that some career is better than NO career but really?
I did not watch the entire video so I don't know if Lee is really wearing this thing but he should have opted for the bionic ear (a la Jamie Sommers) if he is!
Okko - Sitar and Electronics (from Xtabay's World) - classic incredibly strange lounge album - Link
[Bruton} BRM3 - Various - Darkside (from THE LIBRARY HUNT) - Nice example of library music. What is library music you say? Well download it and see for yourself. Link
Damon - Song of a Gypsy (from ChrisGoesRock) - nice late 60's Psychedelia. Link
Various - From 'Bam-Bam' To 'Cherry Oh! Baby' (from You & Me On a Jamboree) - nice various artists reggae compilation. Link
I have completed my run of Out of the Night so the next series that I will highlight is Grimm's Ghost Stories, a Gold Key series from 1972 and thoroughly enjoyable.
The Forbidden Library is a website devoted to banned books. You can't actually check out any of the books (or even download!) but it is a nice list of 'controversial' books throughout history. There are links to purchase the titles but most of them appear to me to be public domain and can be easily obtained on the net from Project Gutenberg or any of the other usual sources.
Once again we are getting into my 'prime-time' of cartoon watching. I was seven years old in 1974 so I am quite sure that I was glued to the tv every Saturday morning. Highlights (for me) this yeare were Hong Kong Phooey, The New Adventures of Gilligan, Devlin, and (of course) the Superfriends. It sure would have been nice to have DVR's back then!
Reruns this year were Yogi's Planet and Bugs Bunny.

Here is another collection of excerpts from a nice French photo novel. It's in French but it's still really fun to look at the thing even if you don't speak the language. I just wish that we could
This week you get TWO saturday morning cartoon bonus posts! This one is Yogi's Gang and in addition to being a cartoon it is also an 'educational' message about pollution and the environment. I do, however, remember watching and enjoying this cartoon. It was probably because they had almost all of my favorite Hanna-Barbera characters all in one place.
Today's Music Monday bonus post is another great compilation from Rangeraver's Departure Lounge - POWERHOUSE SOUL - "A STONKING WIGAN CASINO NORTHERN THROWDOWN". And, as you can see, it's another mouthful of a title. Lots of good stuff here...
Here is an early one with no voice-over. I have very limited memory of actually seeing this one in use but I do remember it so it had to be probably early 1970's (?):
Here's another one from about the same time period with what appears to be a young Arnold Schwarzenegger:
Here is a nice tribute to 30 years of Wide World of Sports from 1991:
Strangely enough, I can't find the one that most of us are probably familiar with 'the thrill of victory... the agony of defeat...' If anyone knows where I can find this one please post a link in the comments.
For this week's SMC bonus post we are going to highlight one of the many Hanna-Barbera Scooby Doo ripoffs. And when we say ripoff we are really being quite kind because it is so much more worse than that.
