Legends of Punk vintage baseball cards

File this one in the 'what the hell were they thinking' category. John Lydon's 'rookie' card from a 1950's Topps set.

Vintage children's literature at archive.org

By now it should be no secret that I love vintage artwork. Every once in a while I can find an old children's book at the thrift stores for less than five bucks but rarely is it ever as beautiful as this one that can be found, amongst many others, at archive.org.

Carousel of Progress

I went to Disneyworld in 1993 and this was still running but when I went again in 2002 it was only 'open for special occasions.' Most of my family hated this thing but I thought it was kind of cool in the creepy Walt Disney future kind of way. Click here to see the original advertising info from the 1964-1965 World's fair promotional material (of which this exhibit was originally a part).

I still remember the goofy song as if I had just heard it yesterday!

We're talking old school Vegas

Ahh, old school Vegas! Martin Scorcese captured it perfectly in Casino. Click here to take you back to the thrilling days of yesteryear. You can almost smell the desperation as you wallow in the kitsch-zy glitz!

Office Space action figures

Kind of cool but frickin' expensive!

$22 plus shipping

I found a Lumberg figure too.

Adults playing with toys...

I always wanted to do this but I figured my wife wouldn't let me.

Use your ingenuity!

You just have to love the amount of legitimacy that the Asian pirates put in to everything that they do.

(and don't you just love the Mickey Mouse in the packaging logo? )

Flickrvision

Here is a cool little mashup of flickr and google maps. See flickr photos as they are posted AND the photos are nicely located on the map for you to see the location from which they were posted. Kind of a cool little idea, totally random but interesting none-the-less.

Charlie Chan (who?) comics (what))

Most people don't know who Charlie Chan is and among those of you that do, you probably didn't know that Charlie Chan used to be in a daily and Sunday comic strip. There are/were actually lots of 'lost' comic strips of many licensed characters.

How many eggs can you carry?

Or, more importantly, who cares?

NBC fall schedule - return of the Bionic Woman (?)

Find the rumors here. Well not actually rumors but about as close to the truth that you can get. A 'Heroes' spin-off series and 30 episodes of 'The Office.' (Thank you my local NBC affiliate for finally going HD this year or I would never be watching these shows!).

Interesting advertisements

I just found this one and thought it was pretty funny, no write-up needed.

The Bathrooms are Coming!

From the latest 365 days project at WFMU comes this gem of an album produced to sell more bathroom fixtures!!!

Make Paper Airplanes and Fly Them - the game

I know, it doesn't sound like that much fun but it is free and a good time killer if you have a few minutes to spare. Click here to play the flash game.

Weird Comic Book Covers - Part 1

I have seen some even stranger ones but here's an ode to the wacky 60's and 70's world of comics before they got all serious on us.

Teach your kids to develop 'DEADLY TARGET SKILL'!!!

Look closely at the ad - 'Develops Deadly Target Skill.'

Wow! This one would never fly in this day and age. Check out this link for some great vintage comic book ads.

(Will anyone else admit to owning the kryptonite rocks? I know that I had some of them!)

Now I can show my wife why I save the wine corks!

I have this bad habit in which I save almost everything (and buy almost everything at the thrift stores). It's a constant battle when it comes to the wine corks. I save them and my wife throws them away. I keep telling her that I want to build something like this:

Or maybe even this:

World's Highest Swing

In the "I'm surprised they didn't think of this in Las Vegas first" category comes this crazy looking Japanese swing at the top of a skyscraper. I still think the coaster on top of the Stratosphere looks a bit more imposing but I get freaked out when my legs dangle on those 'swing-rides.'

Uncle Walt's wacky vision of the future...

Anyone who knows much about Walt Disney (or Disney park's past) knows that Walt was a futurist who had grand dreams of the future. What would he think if we was revived today? Would he see the 'Tomorrowland' that he envisioned?

(and I am dying to know what he would think of South Park or Grand Theft Auto.)

The Paleo-Future blog takes a look at part of Walt's vision.
