Batman - The Movie Soundtrack (1966-2010)

I think that I may have posted this in the past but it's a great soundtrack (and fine company for listening while reading).

Dennis Hopper (1936-2010)

Dennis was always one of my favorite 'modern' character actors and I especially loved his role in Waterworld (yes, THAT Waterworld!).

Lego RPG: The Movie (2004)

Noveltoons

Noveltoons was the name of a series of cartoons developed by Paramount studios from 1943-1967 starring Casper, Little Audrey, Herman and Katnip, and Baby Huey. During my childhood (the 1970's) they were usually seen on Sunday mornings (or early Saturday mornings) mostly as 'filler.' Most of the cartoons have lapsed into the public domain but Paramount still owns the rights to a few of them. The cartoons are rarely seen (on tv) these days which is really quite a shame because for the most part they do hold up quite well.

All of today's featured cartoons are from the internet archive.

Naughty But Mice - 1947

Tarts and Flowers - 1950

There's Good Boos Tonight - 1948

Quack-a-Doodle Doo - 1950 (The first Baby Huey cartoon)

Vintage Metal Lunchboxes

The jailbreak has posted a super sweet collection of lunchbox pictures. As a child of the 1970's this brings back the great memories of picking out that all-important lunchbox every school year. It was always such a hard choice!

The Empire Strikes Back (NPR Radio Edition)

While I don't think this one was as good as their Star Wars adaptation it's still pretty near the finest offering of 'modern' old-time radio style drama. Highly recommended!

The Neglected Books Page

Looking for something else to read? Take a stroll through the neglected books page and find your own 'good books that almost nobody else has read.' I consider myself something of a fringe reader (in that I am not all that excited about the reading from the bestseller list) so this website should prove quite valuable to me. I have seen quite a few links on their pages to many of my other favorite internet book sites in just my first few minutes of browsing.

They offer an RSS feed to help you keep up with their frequent updates.

Smashing Pumpkins - New Four Song EP - FREE Download

A little out of place for this blog but I used to be a huge fan of this band. They are but a shadow of their former greatness but there still is some good stuff here (and it's free).

The Human Calendar

It's not really all that useful but I thought that it was interesting. If anyone knows why everyone is looking at May 23... oh wait a minute, I get it! Today is May 23! That makes this calendar thing even cooler.

Star Wars Episode IV (Lego Style)

Where Are They Now? (The Cast of ALF)

I think that I really liked this show during it's intial run but I rented some dvd's last year and it was pretty horrible, mostly due to the acting, so it's no surprise that almost none of these people are still in the business.

Google Pac-Man

If you haven't been to www.google.com since last Friday you need to hurry up and do it if you want to play their version of Pac-Man that has been imbedded in the logo. It seems to use original sounds and graphics and is just as much fun as the original (take that for what it's worth I guess).
Google originally said that it would be up for two days but now it looks like it may last for the weekend.

Da-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na Batman! (Part 2)

Let's continue our look at the animated history of Batman. We start this time in 1994 with a weak remake (and cheaper for the studio) of the greatest Batman cartoon of all time:

The Adventures of Batman and Robin - Intro (1994)

The New Batman/Superman Adventures - Intro (1997)

Batman Beyond - Intro (1999)

Justice League - Intro (2001)

PC Gamer's Top 100 PC Games of All Time

PC Magazine has released their list of the top 100 PC games of all time (as voted by the readers) and I have to say that although I haven't done much PC gaming in the last few years it doesn't look like I have missed much as most of the games that I played for hours (and hours) are on the list and there aren't very many newer games.

All This and Rabbit Stew (1941)

The quality is pretty rough but it's hard to find any copies of this 'banned' cartoon. It's definitely racist by today's terms but we shouldn't neglect our past no matter how pathetic certain parts of it may be.

HG Lewis Film Poster Collection (+ Bonus Interview)

Herschell Gordon Lewis was perhaps the low-budget horror king of the 60's, earning himself the moniker "The Godfather of Gore.' While I find much of his movie output kind of silly there is lots to enjoy here. Wrong Side of the Art has posted a nice collection of his movie posters, which were almost always much better than his movies. I have always enjoyed Two Thousand Maniacs and it's one of my favorites of his.

Songs From Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (and Other Sweet Songs)

Before you rush off and download this one you need to realize that it is NOT the original soundtrack, but one of the many 'copycat' albums from the time. They don't try to hide this fact but the song artist (The Golden Orchestra and Chorus) is somewhat buried on the record sleeve.

Roller Boogie OST (1979)

Yowza! I didn't think that anyone would dig this one up but the Mancherster Morgue always seems to come up with some nice pop culture goodies. This one features a few songs from Cher and then a bunch of unknowns including Cheeks, Bob Esty, and Johnny Coolrock. There is also an Earth Wind and Fire track here and the whole thing is totally a product of it's time.
